Admissions Statement – Sir John Cass Sixth Form College
The maximum admissions number for year 12 starting in September 2015 is 400.
The academic entry criteria for the sixth form are the same for both external and internal places. However, these may be subject to change.
For A Level Courses: B grades in GCSE English, Mathematics and Science, plus a B grade in the chosen subject. However requirements vary for Mathematics and Science A Level.
Mathematics A Level: Grade A at GCSE.
Further Mathematics A Level: Grade A* at GCSE.
Science A Level: Students are required to have triple GCSE Science at grade B or above.
For Level 3 Vocational Courses: The academic entry criteria are 5 GCSE grades A to C including English, Mathematics and Science.
For Level 2 Vocational Courses: The academic entry requirements are GCSE grades D or above in at least 5 subjects, including Mathematics, English and Science.
If the Sixth Form College is oversubscribed, places will be offered to students who fulfil the admissions criteria, in the following order of priority:
Students who meet the academic entry criteria who are in Local Authority Care – A student under the age of 18 years who meets the academic entry criteria for whom the local authority provides accommodation by agreement with their parents/carers (Section 22 of the Children Act 1989), or who is subject to a care order under Part IV of the Act.
This applies equally to children who meet the academic entry criteria who immediately after being looked after by the local authority became subject to an adoption, residence or special guardianship order (as defined by Section 46 of the Adoption and Children Act 2002 or Section 8 of the Children Act 1989). Official confirmation of status is required.
Offers of Places
Conditional offers to the sixth form are made to students based on GCSE results. Places will be offered subject to availability on the candidate’s chosen courses.
