GNVQ Intermediate / BTEC First
Qualification To Start The Course
If you have less than five GCSEs at grade C but mainly D grades and reasonable grades in English and mathematics you will be able to take intermediate course. For those with very low grades you might need a year studying at level 1 first, but you must gain a merit or above.
Description Of The Subject
This course provides an introduction to this area of work, preparing students for a range of caring related jobs, such as day, health and residential care assistants. It also helps students gain a broad knowledge of behavioural, sociological and biological studies.
What You Will Do
The course consists of 6 units studied over 1 year:
- Health, social care and Early Years services
- Promoting health and well being
- Nutrition and food hygiene
- Creative activities for health and well being
- Introduction to human body systems
- Understanding personal develpoment*
This unit* is assessed through an externally marked test.
Future Prospects
The GNVQ intermediate course prepares you for a wide range of career opportunities in the field of health and social care: nursing, social work, welfare work youth work, community work.
Alternatively, the qualification can help you go on to higher qualifications such as A levels or advanced level health & social care.
