GNVQ Intermediate / BTEC First
Qualification To Start The Course
If you have gained less than five GCSEs at grade C you will be able to take an intermediate course providing you have at least four Ds including English and mathematics or merit or above at level 1.
Description Of The Subject
This is a vocationally related qualification designed to facilitate employee contribution to working conditions in business organaisations. It provides knowledge of business activity and helps develop skills commonly required in business organisations. Students will complete 6 units in the year. Unit 1 will be assessed externally via an integrated vocational assignment set by Edexcel. All other units will be internally assesed through coursework assignments.
A 3 point grading scale of pass, merit and distinction is applied to all units. Points are awarded to each grade (Pass= 2 points, Merit = 4 points, Distinction = 6 points) that contibute to the overall grade for the qualification. This is equivalent to 4 GCSEs at A–C.

The course consists of three compulsory core units and three specialist units as follows:
- Introduction to business activity (core unit)
- Exploring key business pressures (core unit)
- Investigating financial control (core unit)
- Business communication (specialist unit)
- Sales and customer service (specialist unit)
- Starting up a new business
