Qualification To Start The Course
Expected basic GCSE requirements for advance level study – i.e. five grades A*–C at GCSE. Students completing a level 2 qualification are also suitable providing they have a merit or above.
Description Of The Subject
This course covers caring for a range of service users in various care settings. It includes areas of science, social science and psychology. It is a work-related course and allows you to learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about employment within the health and social care sector, you will also develop the skills you need to start a career in related areas.
What You Will Do
The course consists of seven core units and four specialist units studied over two years.
The core units include:
- Equality, diversity and rights in care work*
- Communication and supportive skills for care work*
- Research for care
- Applying sociology
- Protecting self and others
- Applying psychology
- Vocational practice
Units marked * are assesses through externally set assignments. There are no external examinations.

Nursing. Midwifery. Occupational therapy. Physiotherapy. Social work. Community work. Degree level courses.
