AS & A2

Qualification To Start The Course

In line witrh the general requirements for AS/A2 mathematics, students should have A/A* in GCSE mathematics. Students will study this course in addition to the AS and A2 mathematics.

Description Of The Subject

In addition to the units for AS an A2 maths, students will study an additional six units for further mathematics.

These units include:

• AS – FM1/ D1/D2
• AS level – FM2/FM3/ S1

The further mathematics students take six papers at the end of Year 12 and a further six papers at the end of Year 13.

Future Prospects

A level mathematics is considered to be good evidence of problem solving ability. Many courses in higher education require a cometence in mathematics but in ares such as engineering, economics and the sciences, a qualification in mathematics is a must. Courses in finance and business management are simply helped by a good A level in mathematics.
