Qualification To Start The Course
Four GCSEs at grade C or above including English, mathematics and IT at B or above.
Description Of The Subject
The information technology A level course has been developed to enable all students, even those who have not previously taken a GCSE in information technology, to cover principles, knowledge and skills associated with information technology at an advanced level. It uses a task driven approach to problem solving and descision making, which relies on the effective use of information technology systems. It enhances the student's role as a communicator and adviser, extends the student's conception of the effects and limitations of information technology and gives understanding of the new opportunities it provides within organisations and society.
What You Will Do
You will cover the following main topics:
- Computer architecture
- Software development and applications
- The social, economic and ethical issues arising from I.T.
- Information and communication systems
In your coursework you will also be expected to be able to:
- Use software packages effectively
- Be able to analyse and design then implement ideas
- Demonstrate testing and evaluation skills
- All coursework requires the student to identify and research a realistic problem for a real end–user
Future Prospects
Information technology is an accepted subject for access to most courses at university level including business, computer sciences, engineering and science. Computers are also a gateway into a wide range of jobs in industry. In the present computer orientated world this course is invaluable for almost all future employment.
