QUALIFICATION TO START THE COURSE
Expected basic GCSE requirements (five grades A*-C at GCSE) you must
have gained at least grade B in Art or Graphics and show a portfolio of work.
There will be a drawing test at the start of the course.


DESCRIPTION OF THE SUBJECT
Illustration (Graphics Design) is the communication of information and ideas
by visual means. The critical elements for a graphic designer are the successful
communication of a message through the organisation of images and words.


WHAT YOU WILL DO
The emphasis in this course is:
ILLUSTRATION


Students will be expected to develop knowledge and understanding of:
1. The relationships which are established between illustration and
narrative.
2. Illustration briefs, the illustration client, the illustration audience.
3. Thumbnails, sketches, dissections, plans and elevations.
4. Illustration for a variety of purposes,
including book illustration,
magazine illustration,
the comic strip,
advertising illustration,
DVD or CD cover illustration.
We will be focusing on painting, photography, drawing, printmaking and
digital imagemaking and the relationships between thesemethods of
production, engaging relevant practical, conceptual, historical and
theoretical concerns.
