Qualification To Start The Course
Expected basic GCSE requirements for advanced level study – i.e. five grades A*–C at GCSE. You must have gained at least a B grade in English language and English literature.
Description Of The Subject
English literature enourages you to develop important critical skills in reading and writing. These include planning, drafting and developing a wide critical vocabulary.
What You Will Do
- Study prose, poetry and drama – modern and pre 20th century
- Explore the significance of cultural, historical and other contextual influences on literary texts
- Express opinions informed by different interpretations of literary text
- Consider relationships between literary texts of different types and periods
Future Prospects
- English literature is a good basis for study in any arts-based subject – media studies, philosophy, law, politics or languages
- Past students are now following degree courses in psychology, mathematics, law, biochemistry and media as well as English
- This subject equips you with excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary for any career and is certainly in demand from universities and colleges.
