Qualification To Start The Course
Expected basic GCSE requirements for advanced level study - i.e. five grades A*–C at GCSE. You must have gained at least a B – grade in science double award or separate sciences. Applicants will also be requires to pass an entry test.
Description Of The Subject
The Edexcel biology course is well structured and consists of six modules to be taken over two years. Students may choose to complete the first three units for an AS level or all six units for an A2 level award. Assessment is by end of module exams and practical coursework. Practical works plays an important role throughout all the units.
What You Will Do
AS level: Year 1
Unit 1 - Molecules and cells
Unit 2 - Exchange, transport and reproduction
Unit 3 - Energy and the environment and assessed coursework
AS level: Year 2
Unit 4 - Respiration, co-ordination, human health and fitness (option)
Unit 5 - Genetics, evolution and biodiversity
Unit 6 - Synoptic paper and practical techniques (with statistical analysis)
Future Prospects
Previous students have embarked upon a wide range of careers including medicine, vetinary science, pharmacy, physiotherapy, environmental science and physiology as well as careers in more broadly related areas, including the food industry.
